I graduated from the Citizen Police
Academy Class #31 in the spring of 2008 and quickly grew
a passion for the CPA Alumni Association. The programs
they are involved with as well as their dedication to
the Garland Police Department, our officers and the
citizens of Garland are truly
impressive.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the hundreds of hours I’ve spent with
the citizens who make up the alumni and look forward to
many more. I have participated in the
CPA Drive
and Shoots, Officer Cookouts, Golf Tournaments, SWAT
Training, Sobriety Testing, Car Shows, Rummage Sales,
Star Spangled 4th, Walk for Life and Bake Sales. (My
favorite of all of these events has been my
self-appointed role as Quality Tester at the Bake
Sales.) These experiences have enhanced my life and
given me a way to show my appreciation and support to
those who risk their lives everyday to keep me safe in
my home and business. I am ever mindful that my peaceful
sleep is due in part to their “job well done”.
Prior to attending the CPA, my interests in the GPD began in 2007
when I became involved with assisting a few officers in
solving a burglary issue around my place of business on
Forest Lane. The officers
were very personal and professional and I was impressed
with their dedication to resolve the crimes that were
directly affecting my life. This experience made me
aware of the need for citizen support to help fight
crime in my hometown.
Not only did I join the CPA Alumni but I also decided to volunteer
directly with the department with the Crimes against
Persons Unit, and other areas within the department
where there was a need. I have currently logged in
excess of 700 hours since I began volunteering and was
recognized as the Volunteer of the Year in 2009.
My personal life is spent with the love of my live and wife of 10
years, Vickey, who attended CPA Class #16 in the fall of
2000. She
spoke highly of the CPA program and her experiences,
which was another motivating factor for me to get
involved. We both enjoy the hours we spend together with
the CPAAA and the wonderful friends we have found there.
Without her full support, my volunteer hours would not
be possible.
Thank you my love.
In my spare time I enjoy hunting and
camping at the deer lease in South Texas., I like to
relax by playing my guitar, although my wife and
neighbors do not fully appreciate this down time
activity as much as I do.
I’m proud to have been elected to the GCPAAA board and will serve
as a director to the best of my ability.
