I graduated from Class # 15 in the
Spring of 2000, and a year later was elected to serve as
Secretary. In 2002, I was elected as Vice-President and served
in that position for 2-1/2 years. I was elected President for
2006-2007 and have since served two years as a Director. At the 2007 Texas CPAA state convention, I was chosen as the “2007 Texas Citizen Police Academy Alumni Member of the Year”. This is a statewide recognition for contributing most to the success of the Alumni program for 2006-2007. My intentions in taking the CPA class were two-fold: I've always been interested in police work and wanted to know more about it and I was motivated to meet more people in our community. Behind both of these goals was the desire to be able to give of my time and talents to benefit others and to get involved. My background is in computer graphics, advertising and marketing and I try to use these skills to promote both the Garland Police Department and the GCPAAA. I established our website and have designed and produced many different posters and flyers to help in the publicity of both organizations and our events. Each year, I assist in the planning of the Annual Awards Dinner as well as create the program that is provided at the dinner. In the summer of 2006, the Garland and Richardson CPAAA's were proud to have hosted the Texas CPAA state convention held in Richardson at the Richardson Hotel. I was chair of the Curriculum Committee and organized the many great speakers. I also organized the schedule and timeline for the whole event. I have one son, Michael, who is in the Navy and stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. I lived in Garland for 16 years before moving to Plano in 2001. I currently work for Targetbase in Irving and although I live in Plano now, Garland remains close to my heart. |
